About the Methods

The Pilates method is not just a fitness craze that started in the late 80s. This method was created by Joseph H. Pilates in the early 20th century and developed further after he imigrated to NYC in 1925 from a small town in Germany. Joe was known as an intutive mover, passionate about living with zest. He emphasized deep breathing techniques, and worked with ballerinas and other professional athletes.

According to one of his apprentice instructors, Mary Bowen, he based his method on the baby and the cat. He invented many apparatuses to enhance awareness and balanced muscle development in the body, but the most comprehensive is the Universal Reformer (see video clip at right). Joe wrote two highly regarded books: Your Health and Return to Life.

The Resistance Training method we use marries the internal and external mechanics of an exercise on an individual and teaches the individual what proper exercise, for their body feels like. Utilizing both the signifcance of isometric and dynamic exercise to address chronic pain without drugs or surgery we are able to optimize the results of exercise for each person we train.
